About Us
Cardinal Newman died in 1890. Three years later, the first collegiate Newman Club was created at the University of Pennsylvania to provide for intellectual, spiritual, and social growth for students. it wasn't long before Catholic students at other secular universities followed their lead.

At UBC, there is both a Newman Club for students and a Newman Association for alumni and other interested persons. Sunday morning lectures at St. Mark's on the UBC campus provide the core of the intellectual program for the Newman Association. In some years, the Carr Lectures are sponsored to provide a forum for the public at large on issues of pertinence.

The Newman Association solicits funds for the John Henry Cardinal Newman Scholarship of Vancouver for a second year student at Corpus Christi College and for the Jack and Leo Leavy Bursary for a Newman Club member.
